Alopecia areata is found to be associated with noise exposure.

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder, autoreactive CD8 T cells immune response to hair follicle associated antigen. Some patients may have positive family history or atopy.

Clinical features: noninflammatory, non scarring, diacoid patch of hair loss , exclamation mark sign is found. Sparing of white or grey hair in the patch which is called turning grey phenomenon.

Associations of alopecia areata ;

1.Nail : nail pitting, trachyonychia

2.Atopy : atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, asthma.

3.Autoimmune diseses: vitiligo and hashimoto thyroiditis.

4.Sensorineural hearing loss.

Alopecia areata have effect on hearing function by affecting the melanocytes in the inner ear.
