This task focuses on your ability to 'critically' watch a video and form your own opinions - in favour of/ against /neutral about the approach taken by the doctors in FIJI to treat a crisis on Diabetic complications.
In Fiji there is one diabetic amputation every 12 hours. This is devastating for a country with a population around 1 million. This inspirational talk is by Dr Jone Hawea who is a surgeon and spent many years in this field, and particularly around diabetic amputations.
Please find the video on yotube by searching" A Holistic Approach to the Crisis of Non-Communicable Diseases | Dr Jone Hawea | TEDxSuva"
Diabetis mellitus is ofcouse a disease which is present all over the world not only in FIJI. The proper way of treatment has to be started in early. So line of management is identifying cases as early as possiblw with proper testing. There is no doubt to say that increased cortisol can increase blood sugar.Cortisol is present in human body from dawn of human life. The statement which says cortisol is produced more in human body nowadays is unscientific and not proved. Insulin resistance seen in many diabetic patients is not related to cortisol. So I dont believe personally the act of kindness or anything like that but will rather agree the the traditional way of managing DM.
