.How is a maintenance dose determined?

Answer #1

Solution.

Maintenance dose:(Q)

It is the dose giving to maintain the level of drug, during dosing interval after loading dose.

Or it also describe as, after first dose maintenance dose is essential for maintaining the dose in blood .

It can be calculated by

Maintenance dose= (CL×TC÷F) ×T

CL=clearance

TC=plasma concentration

F=bioavailability

T=dosing interval

It can indicate by it's units,

mass (Mg) /time (h) =

[CL (blood/time) ×TC(mass/blood) ÷F(percentage) ] T(time)

That is

(Mg) /h=[(L/h) ×(Mg/L) ÷ %] h

Eg.

[(2 L/h × 5 Mg/L)÷0.50]×22h

=20 Mg/h× 12 h

=240Mg/ 12hr
