Leukemia is most common type of cancer in children. Leukemia is cancer of the white blood cells. The work of white blood cells is to fight with infections and other diseases. In leukemia, bone marrow produces a numerous number of white blood cells which are not normal. These abnormal white blood cells make a crowd in the bone marrow and goes to the blood stream. This disease is curable.

Types of leukemia;

1. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia

2. Acute myeloid leukemia

Signs and symptoms of leukemia;

  • The child may look anemic, pale.
  • Child may feel tiredness, weakness or shortness of breath during any type of activity
  • Recurrent infections may occur to the child
  • The child may bleed easily after a minor cut
  • Joint pain
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Recurrent fever episodes
  • Swelling int the belly

Treatment of leukemia;

Chemotherapy

Radiation therapy

Stem cell transplantation
