Reliability and Validity (types and which is necessary in epi studies)
Validity and reliability in epidemiological studies:
Validity is the claim made on the data. It is the credibility of the research data.
Example of validity: Academic scores collected to measure the intellectual level. Academics scores are just scores of preparation for the exams and they nowhere prove the intelligence of any person. Hence they are not valid to measure the intellectual level.
Reliability refers to the repeatability or the consistency of the findings or observations of research data.
Example of reliability: Different test scores in different scenarios means that the findings cannot predict or forecast anything hence the test done is not reliable.
Similarity is that they both are findings or observation. A finding or data needs to be both reliable as well as valid to measure or correctly predict anything. So in many cases bot are necessary in epidemiological studies.
