Which position is for maximum air flow throughout the lungs fields? (it is not lateral recumbent position)
To facilitate maximum air flow the patient should be placed in orthopneic position. Orthopneic position is a sitting position and it allows maximum chest expansion. In this position patient sits at the side of the bed, head resting on an over bed table with pillows. This position help the patients who have problems with exhaling by pressing the lower part of the chest against the edge of the over bed table.
Prone position is best and safe for Patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome and also for Patients who are in ventilator.
