Debate on the Pro's and Con's on social media monitoring : Pro's and Con's of Employers of Nursing monitoring social media use of their employees before and during their employment
Social media monitoring of employees have both pros and cons.
Pros
1.JUDGE TRUE SELF OF THE EMPLOYEE - during employment , everyone
likes to put out their best self forward. Social media gives a
glimpse of their actual self. It can reveal the true nature of your
recruits .
2.A LINKEDIN PROFILE CAN WORK IN FAVOUR OF EMPLOYEE - monitoring a LinkedIn profile may help the organization to improve the quality of employees. It may even help them to grab better opportunities depending on their skillset.
3.SHOWS DAILY ACTIVITIES OF THE EMPLOYEES AT WORKPLACE - monitoring social media would help the organization know daily activities of nurses. They would not want their employees to spend their day scrolling through social media feeds.
4.helps the organisation to know how much time the employees are actually working. They pay their employees to work for them and not for scrolling through feeds all day.
CONS
1.PRIVACY INVASION - organization may use social media to invade
into private space of the employee. They will know things about the
employees , which they would rather not share in a professional
setting.
2.NOT A VIABLE SCREENING OPTION-
using social media to monitor things like past criminal records
would not be much helpful. Employees are smart enough to judge what
to post .
3.MAY INCREASE DISCRIMINATION -
an employer might not like a religious post by an employee because
of his bias. He may discriminate against him. Other forms of
discrimination like gender, color, race, etc may also arise.
4.UNFAIR TO PEOPLE WITHOUT AN ACTIVE PRESENCE - a deserving employee may not get more opportunities because of his inactivity on these platforms. It harms both the organization and the nurse.
