Answer #1

The scope of pharmacy in a particular country is dependent on the healthcare situation, healthcare and medical infrastructure and the disease and health related incidences which contributes to the multidisciplinary provision of healthcare such as in pharmacy. In case of Jamaica, the Standards and Regulation Division of the Ministry of Health regulates the FDA act of 1964 and regulation 1975 provides authorization for distribution and use of pharmaceuticals. The study of the pharmacy and healthcare availability in Jamaica done suggested that the primary, secondary and tertiary health facilities, warehouses and pharmacies were largely available. However in case of stock-out duration in public health facilities it was of 23 days and warehouse was 8 days which is a serious picture and demands for the expansion of the pharmacy practice to bridge the gap and provide the supply by the pharmacy to meet the demand and maintain as steady healthcare treatment goals.

The affordability of the pharmaceutical medication for common medical conditions and availability of the same was a serious concern and the pharmacy numbers and warehouse storage infrastructure is in dire need to meet the healthcare demand. The availability of pharmacist is higher in the private sector but in case of public health facilities almost 50% have no pharmacist and the dispensation of the medication also is seriously affected. So if we see the available data and surveys in Jamaica, er can clearly identify that there are three major problems with the pharmacy there and this present a wide scope for the person with pharmacy as a career prospect and also for the expansion of the pharmacy. the availability of the pharmacy at the interior region and in public healthcare clinics is quite low and this can be an opportunity and present a good scope for the betterment of the public health situation and also have the prospect of a long and sustainable pharmacy option to explore.

The healthcare infrastructure is present and is ever expanding to meet the healthcare requirement and the medication prescribed and dispensed are and will in future be the backbone in developing country like Jamaica. So in terms of the scope available then the pharma sector is belonging and pharmacy is taking an important recognition on a global stage and in case of developing countries like Jamaica, the country would now recognize the vulnerable healthcare infrastructure and pharmaceutical supply with qualifies individuals. This would translate into wide scope and good opportunities for pharmacy.
