Risk factors for child abuse

* family crisis

* domestic violence in family

* marital conflict

* conflict between parents

* single parenting

* child who is develeopmentally or physically disabled

* female child

* obsession for male child

* financial stress

* unemployment

* poverty

* social or extended family isolation

Prevention of child abuse:

Never try to  discipline the child when your anger is out of control.

Participate in child’s activities and get to know the child’s friends and their background.

Never leave the  child unattended, especially in the car.

Teach the child to use their voice to allow them to prevent abuse in their own life.

Ask questions; for example, when the child tells you he or she doesn’t want to be with someone, this could be a red flag. Clarify the reason behind such situations.

Listen to the child  and believe what they say.

Be aware of changes in the child’s behavior or attitude and inquire into it.

Teach the child what to do if they are seperated from parents or they are away from home.

Teach the child the correct names of his/her private body parts.

Be alert for any talk that reveals premature sexual understanding.

Pay attention when someone shows greater than normal interest in the child.

Make certain that the child’s school or day care center will release him or her only to parent  or to the guardian.
