It includes socio-economic influences and health promotion, tackling the underlying determinants of health.
Health protection
It incorporates communicable disease control, environmental, chemical, radiation and nuclear threats; and occupational health.
Health service quality improvement
It includes healthcare systems, service quality, evidence-based practice, clinical effectiveness and health economics.
This systemized approach to public health delivery can be used to draw out the different levels of competency that will be required by the workforce to carry out their respective roles, and as such has potential for adaptation to underpin educational provision.
The purpose of this study was to explore the interface between
public health education and public health practice. This is
particularly important because of the ill-defined nature of the
public health workforce.
