Public policy : Law or policy against Violence against women

'Violence against women' is an age old problem. It may be in the form of Domestic violence or sexual assault, workplace harrasment etc. The selected policy is based on the 'Violence against women Reauthorization act ' , 2013. The law is passed as a revision of the Federal law VAWA ( Violence against women Act) 1994. The policy was passed to protect the women of kinds and ages from different type of Abuses and violence such as Domestic violence, forced marriages, Intimate partner violence, child marriage, female infanticide, Female Genital mutilation, Denial of medical care , rape and sexual harassment etc. Any type of violence is illegal, this policy offer the protection for women, in the United States , from all type of violence. Both the Federal laws ' Violence against women Act' and ' Family Violence prevention and services Act ' are supporting the services for women and protecting them against all type of violences and thus trying to improve the health and wellbeing of women .

Violence against women Reauthorization act, 2013 , have implemented many services for the women such as ;

* Legal help for survivors of victims of Domestic violence or other sexual harrasment

* Free rape exams

* No prosecution or civil charges in case of Domestic violence.

* Teen and children services

* Shelter homes or protection for victims , who are rejected or evicted from houses.

* Services for women with disabilities.

Many American women got benefited from the policy provision as it ensured  automatic and mandatory restitution of convicted people and many services including free prosecutory services. There were reduction in the reporting cases of Intimate Partner violence and domestic violence after the implementation of the policy. Health professionals also working towards the well- being of the women and they empower the women through health education . They also identify the victim through primary health assessment and physical examination.  

The policy against ' Violence against women ' is reviewed periodically and may make the necessary changes as a result of the work of American activist , who works for women's and girls', transgenders' well- being, especially native Americans. Many unaddressed issues like increased rate of indigenous women homicide and missing cases are currently are in consideration. Along with the activists , Non Governmental organisations also may influence the law making procedures.

( I) agree with the policy ' Violence against women Act' , which gives many provision and support to the victim and ensures the mandatory restitution of the convict. One in three women suffers from any form of violence such as sexual assault, intimate partner violence etc. The society , especially the men should be more aware about the policy so that they may refrain from the unlawful activity against women and the women should be empowered through the education regarding this policy so that they can raise the voice against the abuse.
