What are different types of bone fractures sustained by children? Briefly describe each one.
The common types of fracture in children are:
a) Torus fracture: Also known as buckle fracture. The topmost layer of bone on one side of the bone is compressed, causing the other side to bend away from the growth plate.Mostly occurs in the femur .
b)Greenstick fracture:This is characterized by breaking of bone in one portion and bending of the other. It is also incomplete. Occurs in distal radius or ulnar.
c)Clavicle fracture: Commonly known as collar bone fracture It is usually when a person falls horizontally on the shoulder or with an outstretched hand. A direct hit to the collarbone can also cause a break.
d)Tibial shaft fracture:A tibial shaft fracture occurs along the length of the bone, below the knee and above the ankle. Very common among toddlers so it is also known as toddler's fracture.
