Medical coding modifier is a modifier of a code that provide the means by which physician reporting and indicate particular service or procedure that has been performed or has been altered for some specific circumstances.

TYPE OF MODIFIERS:

1.Modifier 58

Example

performing a more extensive procedures or perform a procedure post operative stage.

2.Modifier 59

Example

Procedure or service are distinct other services performed on the same day i.e.separate lesion and separate injury.

Modifier 78

Example

when patients needed extra surgery due to original surgery.

Modifier 79

Example

The patient has an unrelated surgery during postoperative period of the original surgery from same physician.
