Calculate the volume of water that is required to make this solution isotonic with tears:
Proacine HCl..............1%
Sodium chloride.........q.s.
Purified water ad..........60 mL
multiply the quantity of each drug in the prescription by it's
sodium chloride equivalent E , and subtract this value from the
concentration of sodium chloride which is isotonic
with body fluids (0.9 gm per 100 ml). Sodium chloride q.s. Make
isoton.
Sodium chloride is equivalent to Proacine hcl =0.23gm
1)0.23*1/100=0.0023gm of Nacl represented by Proacine hcl
2)0.9gm Nacl 100 ml water to be isotonic
xgm 60ml ml
x=0.9*60/100=0.36gm
3)0.36-0.0023=0.3577gm of Nacl to be needed .
