The respiratory distress syndrome that is common among pre term baby. For the treatment, the surfactant tharapy is used.

Drug generic name- baractant

Drug brand name- survanta

Drug classification- lung surfactant

Route of administration - intratracheal

Recommended dose- 100 mg/ kg

Therapeutic action - it is use to replace the missing surfactant in the lungs of the newborn baby

Indication - RDS ( respiratory distress syndrome)

Side effects-

• Bradycardia
• Patent ductus arteriosus
• Hypotension
• Intraventricular hemorrhage
• Pulmonary air leakage
• Pneumothorax
• Apnea
• Sepsis

Education

- educate the parents regarding the important of giving the drug to the baby

- advice that this drug cannot be use at home, it should be administer at hospital under supervision by the expert health care team member

- evalute the knowledge of the parents and clarify all the doubt

- provide psychological support.

- advice the parents to be co operative with the health care member for proper caring of child.
