Epidemiological studies aims to understand the distribution of a disease ,its determinants,risk factors and preventive measures of a specific disease .it is important because of following reasons

• it gives scientifically true answer to cause of a disease
• provides cues to preventive measures of communicable and non communicable disease
• it gives information about surveillance measures
• life style factors ,environment factors ,health outcomes of various disease can be determined
• it guides in framing health policies for the public
