Acute stress disorder refers to the initial traumatic symptoms arise immediately after a fracture or traumatic events.

In the weeks after a fracture or traumatic event ,may develop an anxiety disorder called acute stress disorder.

ETIOLOGY-----

Sudden death of any one,

Natural disaster,

Receiving life threating diagnosis,

Physical or sexual assault,

RISK FACTOR-----

Pretarumatic factor---- female gender,intellectual disability, lack of education,genetics, psychiatric disorder.

Peritraumatic factor---- trauma severity ,assault,rape,physical injury.

Post-traumatic factor-----trachycardia,brain injury,poor socioeconomic status,

COMPLICATION

It can lead to various psychiatric problems like

Mood disorder like depressive disorders ,anxiety and panic disorder.

Substance use disorder like alcohol use disorder and illicit drug dependence.

PROGNOSIS

According to recent study,later development of PTSD is strongly associated with ASD.

ASD patients are 24 times more likely to die from a suicide attempt compared to those without ASD. one study found that all cause mortality for patients with a stress disorder diagnosis two times more than those without .
