what is the relationship between active transport and monosaccharides?
Monosaccharide are single unit of sugar with each carbon having one oxygen and two hydrogen atom with a general formula of (CH2O)n.
Active transport is movement of any substance across the membrane against the concentration gradient with the help of energy.
Monosaccharide like glucose and galactose are actively taken up in enterocyte with the help of sodium glucose transporter 1(sglt1) .
While in kidney glucose is reabsorbed actively with the help of sodium glucose transporter 2(sglt2).
These are the two main examples of transport of a monosaccharide by active transport.
Hope this helps. All the best ?
