Nursing informatics: It is a specialty in the nursing practice which is a combination of nursing science and information, analytical science which manages identifies defines and communicates data, information, knowledge and wisdom in the nursing practice to improve the patient care outcomes.

It plays an important role development and improvement of healthcare technology. With the help of electronic medical records and computerised provider order entry there has been limitation in the medical errors, delay in patient care healthcare cost and loss of patient's information.

It enhances patient safety by double -check of orders by the providers against presence of any allergies or repeatition of orders .

Role of the nurse leader as a knowledge worker:

  • Derive required information from large databases.
  • Assessment of the data and information.
  • Effective communication skill with other team members , patients and their families.
  • Should have updated knowledge about the latest technology by regular trainings.
