Clabsi :-it is a central line -associated infection
-it can be defined as laborotory confirmed blood stream infection and is not related to an infection at another site of body that develops within 48hours of central line placement .

-infection occur due to central venous catheter for HD

-CVAD HUB COLONISATION
-CONTAMINATED INFUSION AND COMPONENTS OF THE IV SET
-NON-INTACT SKIN
-THE CLIENT'S SKIN FLORA
Prevention of catheter related infection:-
-minimize the use of heomodialysis catheter
-perform hand hygiene
-apply appropriate skin antiseptic
-ensure the skin preparation agent is completely before inserting thecentre line catheter
-follow full sterile barrier precausion . example; sterile gloves and mask
-remove unneccessary catheters
-avoid using femoral vein for catheter insertion .
RISK FOR DEVELOPING CLABSI :-
-poor nutrition
-increased age
-impaired skin integrity
-position of CVAD catheter increase the chance of getting infection ex; femoral or interjugular
-history of diabetes or vascular disease
-poor hygiene
-poor hand hygiene technique
-prolonged duration of catheter
-non-compliance
-non adherence to sterile techniques

-reness,swelling
-discharge at cetre line exit site
-fever and hypotension
-tachycardia
-diaphoresis
-respiratory destress

-use supportive measures like
intravenous fluid therapy anf oxygen therapy if needed
-monitoring and assessment of clients
-remove unnecessary CVAD s(central venous access device)
