1. A client who weighs 33 lbs is prescribed cephalexin (Keflex) 100 mg/kg/d every 6 hours. The medication is available as 250 mg/5 ml. How many ml of medication will the nurse provide for each dose?
Client weighs in kg is 15kg
Prescribed cephalexin - 100mg /kg /day .Every 6 hourse so ,
If in 1 kg prescribed dose is 100mg/day
Then in 15kg prescribed dose will be 100× 15 = 1500mg/day
As in 24 hours drug given is 1500mg
So in every 6 hours dose given will be =
= 1500×6/24 = 375 mg for each dose
And if in 250 mg amount of drug in ml is 5
Then in 375 mg amount of drug in ml = 5×375/250 = 7.5 ml
Thus the dose in ml to be administered per dose will be 7.5 ml
