Consider where Applied Ethics is evidenced in your nursing program. Write a 2-5 pages paper discussing two scenarios where an ethical dilemma might present itself in your nursing career field and how the problem should be solved according to at least two ethical theories you have studied.

In nursing profession, there are many situation that nursing personnel might face with respect to ethics in the profession and therefore most frequent and stressful situations includes the protection of patient’s right, advanced in caring plan and decision making capabilities.

The two common ethical situations and scenarios are stated below

1. Information hiding or honesty

In some case family members wants hiding the medical information from sick patient to protect their emotion. Although patients have the right to know about their medical condition as well. This is much a tricky situation and should be properly handled by the nursing personnel. Herein, ANA advised to tell the truth which is a crucial parameter for making a good relationship between nurse and patient.

2. Beneficence Vs Autonomy

Nurses must administer the medications according to the prescription from physician but at the same time patient can refuse to take those medicine though the medicines are of real need. Herein patient’s autonomy may go against the direction of the physician or nurse. In this scenario applied ethics demonstrate that the concerned nurse must aware of the background of the patient and inform the patient politely regarding the importance and necessity of the medicines. Herein ANA advised that decision must be make in an ethical way and an caring and openness atmosphere by using evidence based medical practicing guidelines.
