Question

Explain the advantage of Fc fusion protein drugs.

Explain the advantage of Fc fusion protein drugs.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Fc fusion protein are bioengineered polypeptides. They are formed to increase the immune system of human body. Fc stands for fragment crystallizable. Fc proteins drugs can be act as a activator or inhibitor for immune system. They bind with the antibodies and change its structure. IgG-Fc fusion is an example. Fc fusion protein drugs are better because it:-

  • Increase the half life of the serum
  • Prolongs the therapeutic ability
  • Improve solubility
  • Increases the stability

Certain drugs act as ionophores, these drugs cause the thylakoid membrane to become permeable to hydrogen ions (H+). This means that when the drug is present H+ can simply pass through the membrane on their own without a protein like a nonpolar molecule does normally.   When you treat chloroplasts with this ionophore, the light reactions stop making ATP but continue to make NADPH. Explain this result.

The assembly of VLDL particles within the liver involves a protein called microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP), which is essential for the assembly of apolipoprotein B (apo-B) containing lipoproteins. Known inhibition of MTP prevents hepatic VLDL secretion by preventing VLDL production. Given this effect, drugs targeting MTP are of interest as potential drugs for hyperlipidemia (a condition with elevated levels of lipid and/or lipoproteins). As with any drug, there are associated side effects. The side effects of MTP inhibition include...
