A father holds a very important role in the life of his child. It is very important for the father to bond with his child from the very beginning of his life.

A nurse can promote and facilitate the bonding between the father and newborn through following strategies:

1. Encourage skin to skin contact between the father and newborn by encouraging hands on skills such as changing diapers.

2. Encourage father to talk, sing, laugh and read to baby.

3. Make the couple verbalize their feelings about child care and plan different tasks for childcare together.
