theguidelines provided are that of world health organization. a healthy diet contributes to the overall physical and mental welbeing of an individual. eating a unhealthy diet contributes to malnutrition or obesity and risk for non communicable disease such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke and cancer. a person must include fruits, vegetables, legumes, millets, whole grains, nuts in diet so as to make it healthy. all kind of processed foods must be avoided. a person shoul take 400 gms of fruits and vegetables per day.free sugars mustonly include less than 10 percent and fat less than 30 percent of the total food intake. the salt included in diet must be iodized. reduce saturated fats to 10 percent and transfats to 1 percent in the diet. saturated fats include butter, fatty meat, coconut oil, cheese, and cream. transfats found in meat, and dairy products must also be avoided or reduces to 1 percent. food could be cooked by steaming and boiling. butter and ghee could be replaced with polyunsaturated fat oils. limit the consumption of baked foods.sodium intake has to be reduced and potassium intake could be increased by eating fresh fruits and vegetables.
