Does causation imply association? why or why not?

  1. Does causation imply association? why or why not?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Causation in research refers to the exposure in a research and the association refers to the effects obtained in a research. In research if one variable is known for its value then the value which the other variable has can also be predicted or known. It is not necessary to relay or imply on the other variable. Association focus on outcomes because of certain exposure or cause and relates it but it is not necessary this association achieved is because of the cause .This is mainly the outcomes can be similar without the same cause. Therefore causation does not imply association.

Give a specific example illustrating how correlation does not imply causation. 2. A grocery manager has data concerning their sales of fresh produce over a 20 year period. The manger plugs their data into excel and without plotting comes up with the equation for the regression line. Using this equation they estimate the produce sales for the upcoming year. What mistakes did they make? Explain.
