14. A bag of 0.9% NS (normal Saline) is infusing at the rate of 20 gtt/min. The infusion set is calibrated for a drop factor of 15 gtt/mL. how many mL of solution will infuse during an 8-hour shift?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Infusion rate = 20 gtt/min.

drop factor = 15 gtt/mL.

= 15gatt = 1ml

There for, 20gatt = 1.3ml

Infusion rate in mL/ min. = 20 gatt / min

  = 1.3ml / min

Infusion rate in mL/hr. = (1.3ml/min)* 60

=  78mL/hr

Question : how many mL of solution will infuse during an 8-hour shift?

Answer :

Total volume infused in 8 hours = (infusion rate /hour) * 8

= (78mL/hr) * 8

= 624mL
