Uterine muscle has a unique property .During labour the contraction doesn't pass off entirely ,but muscle fibres retain some of the shortening of contraction instead of becoming completely relaxed .It assist in the progressive expulsion of the fetus the upper segment of the uterus becomes gradually shorter and thicker and its cavity diminishes.

The five p 's of labor includes ,power,passageway,passenger,psyche and placenta.

Power:Uterine contractions

a.Forces acting to expel the fetus

b.Effacement

c.Dilation

d.Pushing efforts of mother during second stage.

Passageway:The mother'srigid bony pelvis and soft tissue

Passenger:The fetus,membranes,and placenta

Pysche:A woman's emotional structure that can stermine her entire response to labor.
