NASW stands for National Association of Social Workers.NASW Code of ethics consists of new standards and revisions with ethical considerations using technology. It follows ethical principles based on social work core values of service, dignity, social justice, integrity, and competence. it provides guidance for social workers with professional values and ethical standards. social workers have to apply ethical decision-making process in all the areas of their practice. but in the areas of drug addiction and substance abuse, it is dangerous for ethical misconduct to be more challenging. there will be a critical concern on these population rights to self-determination, maintaining confidentiality, making the importance of the dual relationship. drug addiction and substance abuse individuals suffer in many areas both physically and psychologically. social workers' responsibility to encounter individuals, families, the community affected by substance use. social workers must have the knowledge and ability the work with clients for treatment plan using evidence based practice. ethical principles should be applied in rehabilitation service to promote individual autonomy, freedom for self-governance, and beneficence an obligation to promote client welfare. an ethical dilemma arises in these ethical principles values into conflict and against the course of action. social workers play a critical role in changing substance abuse behavior as a long term treatment and recovery. social workers with a lack of training, inadequate problem solving skills, competence, experience, lack of evidence-based practice cause challenges in substance abuse treatment.
