Procedures are-

1) Arterial blood sampling.

It is done in case of arterial blood gas assessing. Locations are radial, femoral, brachial artery.

Procedure.

Hand washing is done and gloves are worn.

Take 2ml syringe with heparin, cotton ball, gauze, paper bag to discard.

Patient's wrist should be extended and locate radial artery and perform Allen's test. Then insert the needle at 30 degree angle and collect blood in vial.

2)Venipuncture Sampling

It is done to collect blood from superficial vein for laboratory studies such as CBC, Na, k, Haemoglobin, serology testing etc.

Procedure.

It is also done aseptic technique.

Hand washing is done and gloves are worn.

2ml or 5ml syringe with cotton ball.

Insert needle at 30 degree angle and collect blood.

3) Finger stick sampling.

But Arterial blood sampling and venipuncture sampling is common method.
