Seizure precautions are the precautionary measures taken :

  • to control seizure
  • to protect patient from getting injury(during the seizure episode).
  • to identify and avoid the precipitating factors that may trigger the seizure.

Seizure Precaution measures/Nursing consideration   includes:

  • Do not allow the patient to be alone.
  • Providing Well ventilated room.
  • Avoid unnecessary light,sounds and visitors.
  • Bed in lowest position to avoid any injury due to fall.
  • Always keep the side rails up and locked.
  • Keep away all sharp instruments/Patient belongings from bedside.
  • Side lying position to avoid aspiration.
  • Pillow under the head and shoulder to prevent aspiration.
  • Loosening tight clothing around the neck.
  • Seizure pads against the side rails to prevent injury during rigours jerky movements.
  • Airway to be placed properly to prevent tongue bite.
  • Arranging Oxygen supply at bedside.
  • Suctioning equipments at bedside ( oral/nasal Suctioning to avoid aspiration)
  • Always place two patent lntravenous lines.
  • Regularly monitoring vitals and aura of seizure.
