Seizure precautions are the precautionary
measures taken :
- to control seizure
- to protect patient from getting injury(during the seizure
episode).
- to identify and avoid the precipitating factors that may
trigger the seizure.
Seizure Precaution measures/Nursing
consideration includes:
- Do not allow the patient to be alone.
- Providing Well ventilated room.
- Avoid unnecessary light,sounds and visitors.
- Bed in lowest position to avoid any injury due to fall.
- Always keep the side rails up and locked.
- Keep away all sharp instruments/Patient belongings from
bedside.
- Side lying position to avoid aspiration.
- Pillow under the head and shoulder to prevent aspiration.
- Loosening tight clothing around the neck.
- Seizure pads against the side rails to prevent injury during
rigours jerky movements.
- Airway to be placed properly to prevent tongue bite.
- Arranging Oxygen supply at bedside.
- Suctioning equipments at bedside ( oral/nasal Suctioning to
avoid aspiration)
- Always place two patent lntravenous lines.
- Regularly monitoring vitals and aura of seizure.
