Pain is classified as acute or chronic .Acute pain such as postoperative pain subsides as healing takes place .

Chronic pain is persistent and is subdivided into cancer related pain and arthritis , low back pain and peripheral neuropathy .

Any type of pain -----

• Assessment- Time , intensity and location of pain .

• Intervention- Non- pharmacological or pharmacological.

• Measurement - Time , intensity and response .

After assessment medication given as per physician order, it is oral or IV infusion or opioid or non opioid.
