Family is a complex social phenomenon. It is the oldest natural community of people bounded by blood.

Different types of family :

• Nuclear

A structured physical examination allows the nurse to obtain a complete assessment of the patient. Observation/inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation are techniques used to gather information. Clinical judgment should be used to decide on the extent of assessment required.

Characteristics :

• The family has a social group is universal and is significant element in man's social life.

• It is the first social group to which the individual is exposed.

• Family content and relationships are repetitive and continuous.
