Explain mechanism of action for serotonin reuptake inhibitors?
serotonin is one of the neurotransmitters that carry singnals between neurons . serotonin reuptake inhibitors are a class of antidepressant drug which is mainly used to treat depression and anxiety. serotonin is normally removed from the synapse by reuptake site on the pre synaptic neuron. serotonin reuptake inhibitors block the mechanism that responsible for clearing serotonin from synapse by blocking serotonin reuptake site and allowing serotonin to remain active in the synapse longer.
