A personal medical bag allows the provider to have fast access to their favorite items. The quality of items can vary so it would be convenient to be able to use tools that are most useful to you. For example, someone that had trouble hearing may require a stethoscope that has an amplifier or if you work with pediatrics, you may want a pediatric stethoscope. The downside to having your own medical bag is that it can be costly. Most likely, you will fill it with the best quality items and if those get stolen, lost or break; you will be personally responsible for paying to restock the items.

Nowadays , lost or theft of personal belongings of the inmate or of the healthcare worker is becoming a common scenario. The nurse is the custodian of all the valuable in her department . If she lose her medical bag she should immediately report it to the security manager as well as the nurse manager or Nurse in charge as per hospital or institutional policy . An incident report also need to be raised within 24 hrs . Since there is a reduction in the hospital stock it need to be reimbursed as per the institutional policy .
