Magnesium chloride solution and calcium chloride solution both can be used in de icing the road. The magnesium chloride is used in solution wheras calcium chloride can be used in solution form as well as in its dry form to prevent snow on the road

Calcium Chloride is cheep and most widely used because it can be used even in -40 degree Fahrenheit .So this is a better alternative to the brine solution .

Magnesium chloride though eco friendly can be used in a temperature up to -13 degree Fahrenheit only. So this is a second choice .

C14H31NO is not used in order to prevent ice on road .
