Statistics is a vital part of human knowledge.although nursing includes prevention of illness, promotion of health and caring of sick, it also involves statistical skill such as measurements, drawing, and interpreting charts and diagrams.
1.Enhance patient care: Through statistics, nurses are able to prioritize treatments and determine whether a patient needs immediate medical attention or follow-up care. As a nurse, you will use statistics to identify specific patterns in important signs and symptoms and be able to respond better to any medical changes to your patient.for that using frequency charts or data sheet for providing timing of medication.
2.support evidenced base practice:for evidence-based practice to be well established in the nursing profession, nurses need basic statistics understanding to be able to read, comprehend, and interpret relevant literature.
3.Compare options for nursing practice: Nurses use statistics to determine whether the nursing interventions of their choice are effective.in some settings nurse have to take several decision during criticalcare and statistical knowledge comes in handy.
4.Healthcare has become more complex and challenging: Nursing has become more challenging due to the electronic information and published literature that exist.

For one to become a nursing leader, they must be able to keep up with the current trends, be able to solve nursing related problems, and know about new technology that can improve patient care.
Statistics are used in nursing for many reasons. One is to analyze a trend in the vital statistics of a particular patient. For example, if a patient's blood pressure deviates too far from the norm, that is a sign that a nurse should let the attending know. Another is in research in nursing processes and procedures.It is also important in clinical nursing to determine if a commonly used method should be changed or if protocols should be revised. For this example, all of the numbers are random and only used to show the main idea. If the policy in a hospital is to change out an IV line every twenty-four hours, but there is a study that shows that changing the IV line every twenty hours reduced the risk of thrombophlebitis by 20%, it would be a statistical reason to change procedures.
