Suicidal tendency are mostly seen in widowed people than married people. The effect disappeared when there was control for emotional loneliness. Social support did not buffer bereaved individuals against suicidal ideation but reduced suicidal ideation among
the married and bereaved alike.Bereaved persons are at excess risk of suicidal
ideation compared to nonbereaved people. Heightened suicidal ideation in bereavement is associated with extreme emotional loneliness and severe depressive symptoms.

Most of the cases bereavement of loved ones cause the loss of physical and mental stability of the person. Most of the study showing that Psychologically, losing a long-term spouse can cause symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and feelings of guilt. Physical illness may also occur as the body becomes more vulnerable to emotional and environmental stressors.

In general, men tend to be more vulnerable to the widowhood effect. Men are affected more socially than women. Women tend to maintain social relationships and friendships outside of marriage, so when the wife dies first, men tend to lose out on these social relationships and support groups and they tend to isolate themselves.This may disturb their mental capacity and most of the depressive person's condition become worsen and may lead to suicidal tendency.

Women may have an easier time adapting to widowhood and be more willing to seek mental help while men tend to be less social
