Describe the condition of diabetes and how insulin is involved in the development of this chronic disease. (2 pts)
Answer: Diabetes is a condition when the glucose level in the blood increases persistently. The cells present in the pancreas which is also known as islet cells produces insulin. The insulin manages the blood sugar level. But when there is insufficient supply of insulin, or the production of the insulin is not sufficient, the blood glucose level rises up. This occurs due to presence of the disease, genetic factors etc. that the enough insulin is not being produced. In this condition, to maintain the sugar level, medicines are given which enhances the insulin release and simultaneously lowers the blood sugar levels. Insulin injections are also available.
