MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE AMERICAN HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY

There are many problems surrounding the American health care industry.

1.Private health insurance

The other Western nations have a good national systems of health care and health insurance. But the United States relies largely on a direct-fee system, in which patients under 65 are expected to pay for medical costs themselves, through private health insurance, usually by one’s employer. Lack of health insurance in America has many consequences because they are not getting proper preventive health care and care for various conditions and illnesses.  29 percent of Americans have public insurance, but it does not match the coverage enjoyed by the rest of the industrial world.

Medicaid, pays some what health-care costs for the poor, but many of the low-income families are not considered as poor to receive Medicaid and it also very from state to state.

2.High cost of health care

In the industrial world administrative costs are high in America because many of US health insurance is private, billing and record-keeping tasks are very immense. US health care has various money traps.

For private insurance America has a free of service model approach. In this physicians, hospitals, and health care professionals and business are relatively free to charge whatever they want for their services but in the other industrial nations, government regulations keep prices lower. This is the main difference between the United States and its peer nations. This explains why the cost of health care in the United States higher than in its peer nations. Counterparts from other industrial nations US physicians simply charge fees unnecessasarily. And also they have an incentive to perform more diagnostic tests and other procedures than necessary.

3.Racial gender bias in healthcare

Recieving various medical care for the same health problems African Americans are less likely than whites.  . Gender bias affecst the quality of health care. Than men, women are less likely with similar health problems to be recommended for various procedures, medications, and diagnostic tests.

4.Shortage of physicians and nurses

It is a main problem around the country. Emergency room work is difficult and relatively low paying, because of that many specialist physicians do not volunteer for it resulting in potentially inadequate emergency care for many patients.Shortage of physicians and nurses is a severe problem in rural areas. Because of that many rural residents lack convenient access to hospitals, health care professionals and emergencycare. This contributes to various health problems in rural areas.

5.Mistakes by hospitals

Many of the hospitals, patients receive the wrong diagnosis, are given the wrong drug, have a procedure done on them that was really intended for someone else, or incur a bacterial infection. And also this serious problem, hospital employees fail to report more than 80 percent of hospital mistakes, and that most hospitals are failed to change their policies or practices

Lack of hand washing in hospitals, the failure of physicians, nurses, and other hospital employees to wash their hands regularly is the major source of hospital-based infections

6.Medical frauds

Most of the health-care providers, including physicians, dentists, medical equipment companies, and nursing homes, engage in many types of health-care fraud. They sometimes bill Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies for exams or tests that were never done and even bill for patients who were dead by the time they were allegedly treated.
