1. Dietary changes: To reduce the risk of diabetes, patient should decrease the intake of fat and increase the intake of dietary fibres in food. Peoples with over weight are advised to eat smaller amount to consume lower calories. More amount of vegetables, fruits and beans should be included in the diet.

2. Weight control: A healthy BMI should be achieved to get diabetes in control. BMI between 18.5 to 24.9 should be maintained. Weight loss can help to reduce the risk of diabetes and to control blood glucose level.

Medications needed for type 1 diabetes:

A. Insulin and symlin: Type 1 diabetes are managed with the use of different varieties of insulin. Insulin dose may varry person to person.

Symlin is an injectable hormone that work along with insulin. It is used to control postmeal blood sugar.

B. Metformin: Along with insulin,diet and exercise, sometimes metformin also prescribed for type 1 diabetes.

C. Bood pressure drugs, cholesterol drugs amd aspirin also prescribed with insulin to improve overall health and treatment of diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes medication:

A. Metformin: It is the first line of treating type 2 diabetes. It is the only drug which does not cause weight gain in type 2 diabetes treatment. It works by lowering the glucose production in the liver and improving body's sensitivity to insulin.

B. Insulin and sulfonylureas: It is the second line of treatment.

Most of the type 2 diabetes patients will have one long acting insulin at bed time.

Sulfonylureas helps the body to secret more insulin.

C. Glitazone: Third line of treatment.
