Newborn respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS)

risk factors - respiratory infection, malnutrition, pre mature delivery

symptoms - breathing difficulty like gasping with tachypnoea and low oxygen saturation

treatment -

  1. Oxygen
  2. continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)
  3. If the baby's condition worsens and if neonate is not maintaining saturation then an endotracheal tube (breathing tube) is inserted into the trachea and intermittent breaths are given by a mechanical device.
