Question

Metabolic Acidisis vs Respiratory Acidosis

Metabolic Acidisis vs Respiratory Acidosis

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Acidosis occurs when acid builds up or when bicarbonate is lost .

Metabolic acidosis is the acidosis occurs when the digestive and urinary systems fail to break down and maintain the proper level of acids in the blood ie, excessive loss of bicarbonate.

People with metabolic acidosis have nausea , vomiting and fatigue and may breathe faster and deeper than normal.

Respiratory acidosis is the acidosis that occurs during the process of respiration, the lungs fail to remove excess carbon dioxide from our bloodstream.

People with respiratory acidosis often have headache and confusion .

A patient has mild metabolic acidosis from a not-too-severe diabetic decompensation leading to keno-acidosis. The patient's pH is 7.49 with a bicarbonate =16.>. , A curious but confused patient has been diagnosed with metabolic acidosis and wants to understand what is going on. He asks you to explain how acid-base balance works in the body. Be sure to describe in detail the roles played by the respiratory, urinary, circulatory, and digestive systems. Be sure to cover all the most important terms and to explain them in your own words. Remember you are explaining this to someone who doesn’t understand it so don’t leave...
