Alcohol increases the activity of GABA by increasing the release of the GABA by acting on the brain. Hence the benzodiazepines is used to decrease the long term effect of the alcohol.

The alcohol withdrawal requires withdrawal management. The pharmacological treatment includes administration of the tranquilizer which includes valoum, librium. These belongs to the class of benzodiazepines.
