Constant evaluation of oxygenation is essential for infant and the best method of assessing infants oxygenation is through pulse oximetry.It is a non invasive method that registers the oxygen saturation of the infants hemoglobin.The reading from this helps to determine whether the infants need oxygen or not. A sensor is placed on infants finger,toe ,earlobe to mesure the oxygen saturatuion ,which then displaye on the monitor.Maintain a tansducer at the heart level.Donot select the extremity with an impediment to blood flow.The normal value is 96% to 100%.
