Situation: JM picks up a partial fill of his oxycodone prescription on 5/1/19. Unfortunately, the pharmacy was unable to receive an order of oxycodone until 5/5/19. JM is at the pharmacy to pick-up the remainder of his prescription and is very angry when you inform him that he cannot obtain the balance. He states: “I was able to pick-up the remained of my lisinopril five days later a few months ago, what’s the difference?” How would you explain the difference to JM?
The difference can be explained to the patient in the following way
Lisinopril is an antihypertensive drugs which has to be taken for the rest of life to control the blood pressure
Whereas oxycodone is a narcotic analgesics and strictly to be followed ,administered and distributed only as per order. This is because of its high nature of addiction towards this drug to a patient.
So any delay in receiving the medication from pharmacy for refill can not be disbursed legally to avoid consequence and protectiing patient from any abuse.
