You and another team member are preparing a patient for surgery. When arranging the equipment, a surgical instrument briefly comes in contact with a nonsterile surface. The other team member suggests that you simply use the alcohol provided as a topical antiseptic in the operating room to disinfect the instrument. Should you follow this advice?
No, I will not follow the advice because chemical disinfection cannot same as sterilisation. Dirty or partial sterile instruments increse the risk of infection n times and may leads to severe complication to the patient which is against the medical ethics. Our motive is do things for patient beneficiance, not neglegence and doing alcohol cleaning is a negligence in patients care. In sterilisation the evens the pors of pathogens gets killed but in chemical disinfection some spore Mai left and using the chemical disinfected instruments giving the spore a medium to grow. Medical team should decrease the risk of infection and provide safety to patient and staff. So a nurse should not follow this advice for maintenance of patient safety.
