1) A risk factor is something that increases the risk or chance of getting a particular disease.
Some risk factors are called modifiable risk factor ( can be changed)and others are called a non- modifiable risk factor( cannot be changed)
Difference:-
•By taking certain measures modifiable risk factors can be avoided or can change it. The non-modifiable risk factor cannot be changed.
• The effect of a modifiable risk factor can be prevented or controlled when lifestyle is changed and the effect of Non-modifiable risk cannot be controlled.
Examples
modifiable risk factors: physical inactivity, smoking, obesity, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, high blood pressure, high cholesterol level
Nonmodifiable risk factors: age, gender, family history, ethnic background
It is not possible to change age, sex race or family history but a lot can be done to change risk factors like physical inactivity, obesity, hypertension, diabetics, smoking etc.
