There are large number of courts in Australia which have different functions and procedural powers.
HIERARCHY
1. High court - at the top level of hierarchy there is high court which interpret the Constitution. It is the superior court and deals in the cases of special federal powers and significances including challenges to constitutional validity of laws and also hear the appeals of cases of federal, territory and state courts.
2. Federal court - it has jurisdiction in national areas of activity, and cases related to Commonwealth law, including the appeal from Megistrate court.
3. Family court- it has jurisdiction over family matters like divorce, it has original and appellant jurisdiction.
4. Megistrate court - it deals with Civil law dispute like division of properties, migration dispute etc . It is established in 2000, to deal with the dispute in cheaper and faster manner.
5. District court- it deals with criminals offences cases and it act as an intermediary.
Other courts and tribunal
a. Children court - for offences allegedly committed by children
b . Coroner's Court- where the case of death is not sure.
c.State administrative tribunal - it is not a court but an independent body consists of legal and ordinary members. It deals with the matter like resource Development, town planning etc.
