3. A client with heart failure is on a dobutamine IV drip running at 15 ml/hr. Suppose the client weighs 68 kgs, and the concentration of the dobutamine bag is 500 mg in D5W 250 ml, how many mcg/kg/min is at the current rate?
Given-:
1.Rate of IV drip=15ml/hr
2.Weight of client= 68kg
3.Concentration of Dobutamine=500mg in D5W 250ml i,e 2mg in D5W 1ml= 2mg/ml
We have to find the current rate in mcg/kg/min
So,as concentration of Dobutamine=2mg/ml
And drip rate=15ml/hr
By the above two things we can say that Dobutamine in drip rate= 15×2=30 mg/hr
Now we will convert this 30mg/hr to mcg/kg/min unit
1mg= 1000 mcg
So 30 mg=30×1000= 30000 mcg
the weight of person is 68kg and 1hr has 60 min
So, by solving this (30000÷68×60)
We get the current rate in mcg/kg/min as 7.35 mcg/hr/min
So the answer is =. 7.35 mcg/kg/hr
